Depends. Anywhere between $100 and $200 for a day.

Some lessons are just 1 day only. Other places like surf camps last a few days and usually cost more.

Depends on if you want a private or group lesson.  My prices are about average.  $50 per hour group and $75 per hour private.

i have met several people travelling that went to honduras or southern mexico (puerto escondido) to take surfing lessons, where i am sure the cost is exponentially lower. even if you were to take only a week of lessons at $100 / day, you could spend that money on a plane ticket, see a new country and live WELL on your housing / food / bar tab / whatever while you're there instead. just a thought..

You can find them cheaper if you know where to look.  A lot of people will be willing to teach you for free.  You can also look on Craigslist for cheap rates.  Sometimes, local surf shops will offer discounted lessons with board rental.  

If you do group lessons, it's cheaper.  Private ones are more expensive.  Don't go through hotels, they usually over charge.  You should not pay more than $100!
