Silver is free.

Gold 1 month is 7.99, 3 month is 19.99, 12 month is 49.99.

If you in Canada the prices are raised slightly.

However, if you're signing up for the first time on an xbox that was bought new (not used), you will get the first 30 days of Xbox Live Gold for free. You do this by signing up like your normally would, when it gets to the part where it asks what type of membership you want, choose Silver, then boom 30 free days of Gold!!!!!

You can do this with 3 gamertags per console.

P.S. To the first guy who answered you here, it is NOT legit, that is actually how peoples xbox live accounts are hacked and compromised, so do not do it.

gold allows u to play mutiplayer with ppl and everything silver can do to
