How much space Would Ubuntu Take?

I plan on installing Ubuntu on my laptop that runs Windows xP,

I wanna know how much space it takes up, If its less than xP,

Than I know Im gonna install it... How much does it take up?

  1. I have installed it on an old 6GB drive with about 3GB left over.

    One thing to watch is that you will need to remove old kernels as you get updates.......I would keep at least the last 2 that worked, but don't remove them until you are absolutely certain your system is stable....each kernel can release 100's of MB of drive space.  Over time, if you let them accumulate, you will chew up space.

    Of course, the more the better.....


  2. Well it depends. If you are not going to store pictures, music, and videos on it, then I would have 10gb minimum. I would say it can run on 5gb maybe, but I would not do that. If you plan on doing the stuff listed above, I would leave at least 20gb.

    The more the better. I use 200gb for me. I personally would not go lower than 20gb for some reasons, but you can.
