How much would this tattoo cost?

I know only approximations and estimates can be given, but I'm just looking for quick ideas.

The tattoo would be about 1" x 3", all done in black ink, only lettering of one word. (Not going to "give away" my word lol - but it's a 7 letter word). Placement would be on the back of my neck.

  it depends where you go.  i know places that would do it well for $50, and i know other places that would charge upwards of $200 for it.  the best way to find this out is to take the design into various tatt places near you and see how much they want for it.

if it's going on the back of your neck I'm guessing that it's going to be quite small. taking that into consideration and the fact that you wont be able to have very decorative/difficult font because of the size I'm guessing about £20/30 (UK pounds) what's that $40/60 (American)??

most places have a minimum charge that applies to small tattoos, no tattoo however small will be under this price, it's usually around £20 (UK).

but all places are different!

most tattoo artists charge by the hour and for how much ink they use. The artists around here charge 100 bucks an hour, but i'm sure it's cheaper in some places and more expensive in others. Your best bet would be to go in and have your idea drawn up, and ask whoever will be tattooing you if they can give you a roundabout price before getting it done.
