I loved skating growing up and i have a girl who just turned 3 and a boy who's 4.5. They have expressed no interest in skating because i dont think they know what it is or have ever heard of it but i really think they'd enjoy it. I'm not trying to train them for anything just to take them out as a one time thing let them go really slow or use cones to help them skate or whatever. do you think that they are old enough to be able to do it? they have roller blades at home and love those.

  1. both of them are old enough

I started skating when I was about 4, and they have lessons for little kids at some skating rinks where they teach them the basics.  If the rink has a figure skating club you could check and see if they have a basic skating program and see if you could get your kids signed up.  This would teach them how to stand, balance, stride, push off with one foot and so on.

just make sure they have a helmet and knee pads because they fall a lot.

  2. They are definitely ready if they want to do it. In my state at Skate City they have a 'Pixie' class for 2-6 year olds, where for an hour and a half they can skate without having to worry about bigger kids. They also teach them simple things. Plus, when starting out you can have their skates 'locked' - where they 'lock' the back skates, so they get used to going around the rink. I took my son at 2 1/2. He is now 4, on unlocked skates and is very fast! I have the feeling he will be into hockey since he loves skating so much. Look into some rinks around you and see if they offer anything for little ones.
