I can't give you their wealth in dollars and cents, but I do know that the bin Laden family is second in wealth to the royal family in Saudi Arabia.  In fact, their patriarch just finished a project to renovate Mecca, pouring unlimited amounts into assuring this sacred spot is luxurious.  

Osama, it is said, is independently wealthy himself, but also may be backed by family money.  He is said to live a very frugal life, scorning the trappings of the rich and putting his money into the Cause, which would be the downfall of the Super Powers.  He accomplished this goal with the Soviet Union, with the war in Afghanistan slowly draining that country of its resources.  If you take a look at the economic problems of the U.S., he is well on his way to attaining his goal with the world's remaining Super Power, too...helped, of course, by the economic failure of George W. Bush.

The friendship between the bin Laden family and the Bush family may play a role in the War on Terror. Many people believe that this friendship has played a hand in the fact that American forces were not sent in droves to that mountain where Osama bin Laden narrowly escaped capture in Afghanistan, and Afghan forces...some of them sympathetic to the Al Queda cause...blundered and allowed bin Laden to escape.

There were also visits between the two families; they were in business together; and many people believe that this explains the President's reluctance to press the search for bin Laden.

We'll never know the answer to that puzzle, but the truth remains that we did not concentrate on the search for bin Laden, but changed our goal to Saddam Hussein and Iraq.  It was a huge mistake, according to most sources, and has led to the problems in Afghanistan today.

Whether or not bin Laden is alive, one can be assured he is not living in a cave, eating bread and water, dressed in sackcloth.  He undoubtedly lives amid those who support him and consider him a legendary hero.
