Question:

How safe is TRIBALPAGES?

I'd like to make my family tree accessible for other family members by uploading it to Tribalpages. At the moment they have to wait for me to bring the file with me when I visit, and that can take weeks to arrange. I thought it would be nice for them to be able to log into a site and see it all there, and have the time to go through it whenever they like.

I've set up an account, but I haven't uploaded my GEDCOM file yet, because I wanted to double check that it was a relatively safe site, in terms of other people viewing the information, and identity theft.

I have the highest privacy setting possible, and will only give access to close family members (i.e. parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins). No sixth cousins three times removed or anything like that.

Obviously I'm new to the site (I only HEARD about Tribalpages a couple of days ago!), so can anyone who is familiar with it advise me?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Many people upload gedcoms to various places, and highly enjoy doing so.

Just to let you know.. it is not the only option.  Since your family clearly does have internet, they can download PAF for free, and you can email the gedcom as a file attachment.

I am fussy that I don't like files online.. but that is just my opinion.

  2. I think it's reliable
