Question:

How secure are our voting machines?

I was reading an article http://nightweed.com/printableusavotefacts.html about some pretty sketchy things concerning the servers we use to count votes.

Do you think think this is something that needs to be more thoroughly investigated before the upcoming election? Do you think it is a plausible (or more importantly, likely)?

All feedback is welcomed.

  1. I agree that there should be an investigation and the elction monitored by unbiased persons, who will assure that everything is done absolutely correct. There should be representatives from all political parties on the ballot at all the election sites.

With regard to the problem of getting the votes counted accurately:

  2. Technology can be a wonderful thing but when it's misused and abused, it can do a lot of damage. I say we go back to any of the more primitive methods of voting, be it paper, punch cards or little pebbles. Our "need to know NOW" society should sacrifice IMMEDIACY and INSTANT RESULTS for SURE and DEPENDABLE forms of voting (even if it DOES take 3-4 times longer than electronic methods.) This way, the public's faith can be restored when it comes to how our officials are elected. Now, as for the officials themselves...

  3. They're not.

It has been shown time and time about that electronic voting machines are very hackable.

  4. Barely a ripple last week, but I saw an article that the Diebold subsidiary acknowledged that votes were lost in the process of uploading during the congressional elections two years ago.  Apparently the servers could only accept so many votes per second and when multiple precincts would send in votes at the same time - poof!  If it happened in that election it happened 4 years ago as well, you can bet on it.  It is a sad statement on American politics to have the UN tell the world that the American election could not be verified.

  5. Haven't you heard...all republicans will vote on November 4 and all democrats will vote on November 5.

  6. not very secure at all. And Sequia systems parent company is owned by Hugo Chavez and the Venezuelan Government - and those machines help decide our President
