How to _____ using Gimp?

Question

Okay I just mastered on how to make part of a picture in color while the rest is black and white but....

I want to make the picture blend with the rainbow pattern thing. How do I do this? I have already looked on Gimp tutorials and read everything, I cant find how to do this though.

Please give me step by step instructions I would appreciate it ALOT!!!!!! I cant find any website where I can do that but I know it is possible because I have seen pics like that on photobucket and stuff.

Try this: create a transparent layer, paste the rainbow pattern above the figure, experiment with the effects in the layer window, and when you get it where you want it, merge down.

You can open the layers window from The GIMP's main window.

depending on whether it is whole page or selection, you would use gradient tool with spectrum of rainbow colors,
