BE YOURSELF!! why change for people your so called friends when most of them end up changing for the worst or stab you in the back. Don't change for anyone i did and that was THE biggest mistake of my life i changed myself back, but it took me a while to remember who i was. Don't change if you have alot of emo friends and they like you that doesn't mean you have to change for them to like you again when they already like you.... so don't change :D

When people cut, they're usually really depressed and have major problems going on at home. They usually have a mental illness. Depression.

Long, lanky hair with a sweeping fringe, or short, and spikey at the back. Keep it black, or bright blonde if you're a girl. Bright coloured highlights like pink are optional.

Piercings basically all over the face. Many in the ears. Snake bites, tongue piercings, eyebrow bars, etc.

Tons of eyeliner - and I mean tons. Go pale, and maybe draw small hearts/teardrops in the corner of your eye with the eyeliner.

If you need glasses, get the thickest black rimmed ones possible.

Wear tight clothing. The skinnier the jeans the better. Black is best. Wear tight vintage or band teeshirts.

Have Vans or converse.

Have a studded belt and plenty of bracelets.

Get a messenger bag. Decorate it with loads of band or vintage badges.

Wear black nail varnish and chip it.

Be g*y/bi - for some reason it's the latest trend.

Be straight edged; be a vegan, don't drink, smoke, or do drugs.

Music: Anything emotional with meaning and lots of screaming. Emo-pop, whatever you want to call it. My Chemical Romance, Cute is What we Aim For, Hawthorne Heights (compulsory), Panic at the Disco, Aiden etc. Buy the old-style records and always have your iPod/MP3 on. Be quiet and moody. Love any music that involves drag, sexuality, suicide, broken hearts.

Hope this helped. I'm not an emo, but where I live there are so many you can't not pay attention.
