  1. The best way is to drive the car a few miles and drain the oil as soon as you get back.. That way all of the deposits are suspended in the oil and will be flushed out when you drain it.  I have seen some people do a so called engine flush and ended up with an engine that started burning oil.

  2. A 'oil flush' is not recommended as it disturbs carbon deposits and other stuff that your engine is used to usually causing it to burn oil. If you leave the sump plug out over night more of the oil will drain than if you left it out for an hour. Also for a car of that era you should use a mineral based oil. Only the newer vehicles are designed for synthetic oils. You will never get rid of the old oil out of your engine unless you pull it down and rebuild it as it sits in valleys inside the engine. As its very little that is left in the engine it doesn't really effect the new engine oil.

  3. You stated clearly that you have cleaned the outside of the engine. To clean the inside i use Risilone. Run the engine, to get the oil warm add the Risilone, run for 5 minutes and drain. Let it drain extra long. That being said many will say it is a bad idea to run cleaner to flush the engine . They beleive it will allow dirt and deposits to spread through the engine. I do not think that way.

  4. High pressure water cleaner maybe?

  5. carefully with a rag and some industrial degrease. NOT WITH HIGH PRESSURE. if you shoot high pressure into an engine compartment, water can git into places it shouldn't be. one of the biggest is in the alternator. if water gets into that it can crack the diode trio, which takes ac power, to dc power. then your alternator is shot and you need a new on, hope you can afford it.

  6. You mention cleaning in the motor. That, I'm not sure. You had better ask you mechanic. As far as cleaning the outside of the engine which I have done on several occasions with various vechicles, try using a spray on cleaning solvent called Gunk. It runs about $4.00 per can. Just follow the instructions. Works well.

  7. The main thing is use a very good oil for your engine. Not all oils are the same. I have told people what kind of oil they were using by just tearing their motors apart and looking at the insides. E. F. Hutton had some very good answers for you but I would not recommend a motor flush unless really needed. Keep the right amount of oil in it. It may take like 4-6 qts but the top 2 qts are the most critical as the crankshaft sits in the oil and rotates in it. If the oil level is low , the crank will not catch much of the oil resulting in lack of oil sent to the correct places. I would recommend calling some mechanics or repair places and ask them what they recommend. Then maybe go with the best average.

    Good Luck!!!!

  8. I wouldn't recommend spending too much on oil. At that vehicle's age and value you're probably wasting your money.

You can use a motor flush product. However, I generally don't recommend that. Again the vehicle's age comes into play. A motor flush can actually cause components to loosen and get a little sloppy. If you want to attempt to clean the motor I'd recommend adding about a quart of transmission fluid into the oil, seriously. It has high detergent and its weight will do a pretty good job of cleaning things. Run it for about 10 miles or so, no hot rodding. Then change oil and filter as normal.

I'd also recommend using straight 30 weight oil, accept in winter. The W in the value such as 10W30 means winter. Multi-viscosity oil like that begins with the lighter weight and then gets heavier as it gets hot. 10W30 is 10 weight oil which gets thicker to 30 weight when hot. This is for easier starting in cold weather. The problem is that the ingredients that cause this change wear out in about 3000 miles (about 4800 km) and you're left with 10 weight oil which is too light for adequate protection. This is why you're told to change oil about then. Running straight weight oil offers better protection, even when starting, and if you don't change oil in a timely manner you are still protected. It will make it harder to start in the cold, so go ahead and use the 10W or 5W then.

That car is a Mazda 323 with a Ford nameplate on it. With regular oil changes and kept tuned it will run for a very long time. You can easily get 200,000 miles out of it. (convert for km)

Always change the oil filter at oil change time. Keep the air filter clean. And if it doesn't have one already get an oil pan drain plug with a magnet in it.

As picasso says, use good oil. You don't need to most expensive synthetic. But discount "store brand" oil is sometimes a sub-standard product. I've actually seen it with water in it in a sealed bottle. A motor flush is probably not required.

  9. ok the best way to clean out the oil inside the engine is that you get a lil extra amount of oil so that you can pour in your oil while the oil pan is not sealed and let the oil empty out when you see the oil run clear then you are fine this is referred as an oil flush. then you pour in your oil after your pan is sealed up and you are good. also using synthetic fuel is soo good for your engine it keeps the engine cooler also you cab run longer with out having to change it.

  10. I assume you are talking about the exterior of the engine. There is a product called simple green. It works awesome.Keep your motor running and spray it on your engine.Take a hose with running water.Use a paintbrush spry the simple green on the engine and brush it with the paint brush.Rinse it with the hose.If you are talking about the interior of the engine flush it with keroseen.I use Mobile 1 in my car and I flush it every 25,000 miles with keroseen to get the deposits out.

  11. use a hose and detergent.

  12. i agree with the pancakes...
