First of all how do you choose a good bike? Second here are some details I want to add. I'm in grade ten and I want a good bike to last me until grade 12 and a little beyond. I'm not going to be a serious biker but I will be biking for fun around the city and in trails but not up on teh mountain. I want a pretty decent bike but not super expensive. Thanks.

  1. Trek, Giant and Specialized are all good brands that have a full range of bikes to fit most pocketbooks. So ignore anyone who gives a specific bike for you. They all have different shapes that will make them ride differently. Got to your LBS and try lots of them. When you get close they may need to switch out some parts such as the neck, handlebars, seat to make it comfortable for you to ride. They can also let you know about maintenance that you will need to do. Tires/chain/brakes etc.

Start with the websites of the 3 and get a feel for the price range. Remember its MSRP and your bike shop will have their own prices but will be in the range of what the website list. The least expensive is around 300 for each of the companies. They might go a little lower but that's about what you will start at.

They will be lighter with better components than a walmart cheapo. You will also get a free 1 month maintenance at the LBS and also knowledgeable people to help you. After HS any of these would be great commuter bikes or college campus.

  2. a hardtail mountainbike would be good  a mountain bike can be used for anything  get a hardtail wiht small suspension since your not so serious

  3. I think a Trek 3700 is your best choice. I know that $350.00 to about $370.00 is expensive but when you buy a Trek, you know exactly what you paid for. Its a great brand and i'm more than sure that the type of riding you will be doing, that this bike will last you a very long time.

    BEST OF LUCK TO YA

  4. 1) Go to a bike shop. Stay away from department store gas-pipe POS cheapo bikes. Seriously.

    2) Bike Store Guys will fit you to a bike. They sell brand names that will last longer than above-mentioned Huffys and Next and other trash.

    3) A hybrid/comfort bike will suit your needs. You can get a decent one for under 4 bills.

    4) Learn a bit of maintenance, minimum being fixing a flat. It ain't hard. A seat bag with glueless patches, pump, and a multi-tool is essential. And a water bottle.
