How to copy DVD to Macintosh?

Hi I wanted to store DVDs on my Macintosh computer just to watch them whenever I want on the computer itself. Its a 30 inch display and i dont want to insert DVD after DVD to watch them. I want to just open them from a file. Is there a way to do this without having to buy software to do it?
