  1. The analogy I always liked is that you want to compress the ball.

Work on proper lag and it will happen automatically.

  2. I am not sure of the question either MBL but we will try this.  Iron squeeze refers to the iron or club trapping the ball against the ground.  This is seen more on shorter irons than longer irons, which is why you get more of a divot with a 9 iron than a 3 iron.

You trap or squeeze the ball against the ground by hitting it with a descending blow and with your hands in front of the ball.  About equal to your front thigh.  This traps the ball and allows the club to do it's job.  You will also get a divot with this swing just make certain that it is not too deep.  Hope this helps.

  3. I'm not sure I understand the question.  Anyway here goes.  Think of the golf club making a semi-circle through the hitting zone.  The club travels down, reaches a bottom point, then starts to travel up. The bottom out point will tend to be below your sternum or nose.  At the moment of impact, the club should still be on its way down. Thus the divot comes after the ball.  This is why we place the ball towards the center of the stance when hitting an iron. Conversly, when you hit a driver, the ball is teed up and you want to strike it on the upswing. Therefore the ball is placed forward in the stance. I hope this answered your question.
