Someone gave us a sofa/couch that is a cloth material and it stinks like cigarette smoke and has dry muddy Dog paw prints all over it. What is a good way to clean it? Will febreze get the stinky smell out?

  1. Things You’ll Need:

    Vacuum Cleaner with Attachments

    Lint Roller

    Steam Cleaner (Optional)

    Washing Machine

    Detergent or Vinegar and Water

    Step1

Use the attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and crumbs.

    Step2

Roll a lint roller across the cushions to remove any excess pet hair.

    Step3

Use a steam cleaner to wash the cushions. You can rent one at your local grocery store. Turn a fan on the cushions to speed the drying process.

    Step4

Remove the covers from the foam cushion if you do not have access to a steam cleaner, and wash them in your washing machine on gentle cycle.

    Step5

Wash the foam cushions one at a time in the washing machine on gentle cycle. If they will not fit in your washing machine then wash them in your bathtub. Use regular detergent or vinegar.

    Step6

Dry the cushions on a rack in the dryer, or set them outside on a sunny day. Make sure they are completely dry before replacing the cover.

    ______________

Spot clean small spills with vinegar and water to remove any odors.

  2. 1-get a spot remover u know what is it right ?

in anyways it's a spray that removes spots OK and u just need to spray it two times.

2-next,when your done of spraying the spots get a medium +

spun-ch and start scratching it the spots on the spray part that has spots

3-finally  ,to get rid of the smell get a perfume on it.

  3. you could use febreeze, yes, but it's just only to cover up the smell like a perfum. i'd suggest cleaning it first :)

if it's a microfibre couch vaccum it first, getting rid of all the crumbs and other things. to get rid of the dry muddy paw prints use a small amount of gentle soap like dove and some warm water. scrub with a damp cloth. when the mud is off blot with a dry cloth until dry.

if this doesn't work, call a professional.

  4. Rent a steam cleaner with attachments... I have used ammonia, with defoamer very successfully. Ammonia is the GREATEST odor neutralizer (I know, I'm a retired cat breeder, it beats vinegar or baking soda), and it cleans great, but it foams so add extra defoamer to the recovery tank. Febreze just makes it smell like Febreze and stinky smell, my opinion! ;0)

p.s. You can treat the paw prints with Shout spray laundry stain remover, before steam cleaning. Also, after the first steam cleaning with ammonia, do a quick one with nothing but hot water to help rinse the fabric. Set fans towards the couch to help get it to dry quicker. You can Febreze when dry if you want a perfumed smell.

EDITED TO ADD; If in doubt of colorfastness of the couch fabric, first test a small inconspicuous area with a small amount of ammonia and water.
