Question:

How to entertain small boys?

It's my turn to host a get together with two other couples. They each have a small boy, one is 2 and the other is 4. The boys are VERY active!

My children are older and both girls - I have no experience with little boys at all, and I am at a loss as to how to keep them entertained while the grownups chat and eat. At least when their parents hosted, they had toys to play with. This problem has kept me from extending an invite to their parents, and it's now becoming obvious that I am way overdue. What can I do to prepare for their visit?

  2. Hot Wheels crayons and coloring books. I have 17 month old son who literally has a toy car in his hand at any given time. ANd all kids like coloring.

  3. The most simple thing to do is just ask their parents.  What do the boys like?  Even though they are only two years apart, that is a very wide age range for entertaining them.  Think of "hands on" activities.  Discovery toys has awesome toys with age limits.  Boys are usually into cars/trucks and building blocks but keep them large enough so the two year old won't put them in his mouth.  You can always rent an action video for them to play or sing along with.  A simple ideal is to build a tent (a fort) with a blanket.  Boys loves to run in/out and hide.  If allowable, let them eat in their fort!  Make it special for them as well as the parents.  Good Luck!
