How to find accounts work?

I am a experienced financial controller with masters degree and professional qualifications who has handled several high profile jobs. Recently I was made redundant and already sent hundreds of applications and called for more than twenty interviews during last two months. But most of the time I was told that I am over qualified for the job.

I am prepared to work for half of the market rate but no one wants my services. Any one could educate me how to land a job when you are specialised on business management and above 50 years old.

  1. Its perserverence Andi.  YOU had a fairly high profile job, now you are looking for work which means that to many firms you have a combination of Rabies. HIV, Dementia etc.  Happened to me years ago, after 30 years in management jobs culminating as General manager of a medium sized Engineering Company (which could not compete with the Far East labour rates) i suddenly found myself virtually unemployable. Offering to work for half the market rate does not work, they just feel that if you are prepared to make such a substantial drop you are no good (forgetting that you are now living on a pittance and hitting your savings every week). by the time i got back into work i was 16 grand in debt and about 3 months away from having to downsize my home. But, depressing as it is, there IS something out there. You may want to look at what you could offer on a consultancy basis.
