I have AVG installed on my cpu. There is an error message that keeps popping up saying it is missing a .bin file so it can't update. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. An ideas?

  1. Hi,

me too have the same problem from today morning. Dont know the reason for that.

    Thanks.

  2. I have come to the conclusion that those who think/thought there was a bug in the system are right. I am the most computer illiterate person in the whole universe and I just tried again and the update worked!

  3. I have the same problem - been trying for 2 hours to fix it. Un-installed it re-installed it then repaired and still nothing just the A.bin file missing error. Can't find which bin file it is, hoping AVG is the source of the problem!

  4. You are not alone!!  We have message about a "missing .bin" too.

AVG must be having a problem.

  5. thanks  it really did work

    1) go to http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-updat...

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4

    4) download IAVI: / 1616

    5) move the dowloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

  6. Ha all.... I too have the same problem this morning.......missing a file....

  9. Hey,

Don't worry about anything, I just have the same problem. All AVG users are. It's just kind of like a bug, or the update is missing some files. The best recommended thing I suggest you should do is nothing. You might mess up AVG, and waste your time. They will probably update this soon. Your Antivirus and Spyware protection and all those stuff will still be working properly, so you shouldn't worry. The bad thing is you will have the ! on your grayish AVG icon. If you do not trust me you can search 'bin file missing' on Yahoo! Answers. You can see a list of questions exactly like yours posted somewhere 6 hrs, 7 hrs, 5 hrs ago, or somewhere today. It is just a false update made by grisoft. Just be patient and it'll be updated, and everything will be working properly again.

    Good Luck!

    Kevin

    Don't worry!

  10. mine is saying that too!

if you find out please tell me :]

    thanks

  11. I got this message and the update it says it wants when I go for manual is supposed to be 14 kb. Going to the site it says it's 25 MB !!! (Might this be part of the problem ??)  I am on dial up. AVG seems to suggest waiting is OK, so I shall !

  12. Download the bin file from online.  You didn't give the name of file you need. If the u7avi978na.bin file:

Make sure your computer date and time are correct (AVG needs to know)

Launch the AVG Control Center, select the Update Manager button,

then press the "properties" button at the bottom of the window

UNcheck the option "do not ask for update source", and click "apply"

Click the Update button at the bottom of the window and find the folder

    you put .bin file

Click OK and AVG will update (unless it's already up to date)

Remember that you've set AVG for manual updates. You'll have to

undo that if you want to update via the Internet again.

My fix for that is to completely remove it from Windows and the HD. Total DE-Install. That includes finding the folder under c:\Program Files and deleting the folder.  Possibly run CCleaner's Registry Cleaner utility and look for remnants of Registry keys to anything Grisoft/AVG and fix those only.

Then find the latest download from Grisoft and reinstall AVG.

On the freeforum.avg.com site, something about the Manager being corrupted and there is no fix as yet (they're working on it). All should be still protected from previous updates.

    That's it. Should be fixed.
