Question:

How to finish laminate flooring?

My husband finished laying the laminate flooring in the living room. We have lino in the kitchen which is thinner (so lower) than the laminate, and we purchased an "edger"? strip. (Maybe called a "riser" or "equalizer) Its the part that transitions from the laminate to the lino. There are no s***w holes and we don't want to put any in as we like the clean look of the strip of wood. My question is how do we adhere the strip to the laminate and lino. The people at the store where we bought the strip say to use contact cement. Just wondering if this is the way to go and if anyone has done this before. Thanks in advance!

  1. the transition strip you are talking about that joins laminate to vinyl is called a "reducer"....you can either use contact cement, which I use on a cement floor, or if you are doing this on a plywood floor, just nail the plastic strip down.....you may have to finish it out with a nail punch but that is what I do on a plywood floor........

  2. The Allock (Alloc?) system I installed had a T-shaped aluminum strip that screwed into the subfloor.  The top of the T screwed into the floor, leaving the bottom of the T sticking up.  The equalizer slipped snugly onto this and was kept in place by directional ridges in the aluminum.  Maybe you can find a similar, matching transitin system from another brand.  Where I had to glue in other places I used Liquid Nails in my caulk gun.  (I think this type of LN mentioned laminates specifically.)  It worked well.

  3. I have installed 36 of these floor's so if you want to make Bond in between the two use a epoxy or gorilla glue either will give you the adhesion that your looking for

  4. A glue called PL Premium. An excellent product.

It comes in a tube suitable for your caulking gun, and of course, be careful and dont over-do it, it is VERY sticky, and cleanup of any over-applicate is diffucult. A little goes a long way!

    There! Done!
