  1. If you are talking about the seed our of an apricot that you bought in the store, you probably don't want to do this.  Fruit seeds usually don't product the same plant as where they came from.  The reason is that many fruit trees are sterile.  Some produce just the pollen.  Some varieties are not able to pollinate their own variety.  Not to mention, the root systems of most fruit trees is not their own, but the upper part of the tree is grafted onto a root system with the traits that the farmer is looking for.  For instance, there are root stock that is immune to some diseases, and other root stock that produces dwarf fruit trees.

If you are interested in growing a certain type of apricot tree, you would be best served to purchase a tree with the proper kind of root stock.

If you just want to try growing the tree from seed and don't care about the fruit produced, give it a shot.  You will need to pack the seed in a cup of moist peat moss stored in the fridge for 3 months or so.  This is because the seed needs to lay dormant in a cool moist area.  After this, take it out and put it in a pot of good potting soil and treat it pretty much like other plants.

Got much of this info from the following web site.
