  1. for the most part, the transit bus is the main means of public transport in milwaukee.  there are no subways, light rail, bus-rapid-transit, or commuter rail yet.

milwaukee does have an advantage over many transit systems, in that it is a county system rather than just a city system.

that being said, some itineraries might be decently served by other carriers - such as amtrak between downtown milwaukee and general mitchell intl airport.  some suburbs might be served between milwaukee and other cities such as madison or green bay, check bus companies such as badger or greyhound.

the county transit system also operates a nice network of freeway flyers to several suburban locations, and adds extra services for state fair and festival grounds during the summer.

there is discussion of kenosha-milwaukee commuter rail, that would have several stations within the city and county.  you need to push your legislators for this option.  after spending almost 1 billion $ for a toll-free marquette interchange to subsidize the automobile, the least they could do is subsidize the train for a few million dollars.

  2. Besides the extensive Milwaukee County bus system (which is very good and reliable) there are taxies, rental cars, airport limos (these vary from real limos to mini-vans).

Parking in Milwaukee is pretty easy.  Mass transit beyond a very good bus system are just not feasible unless the downtown area were to flourish and have many more jobs to offer.  Business continues to pull out of Milwaukee to the 'burbs.  An improved school system would probably make a difference, too.
