How to help my Pleco grow...........?

Question

I have a small Pleco, he is about the length of an index finger. I have had him for about 7 months. I've never fed him anything assuming he would just eat algae. He is in a 10 gallon tank with one other fish(guppy.) How big will he grow and WILL HE?

algee disc work as a suppliment if your tank is not to dirty witch i doubt yours is with only a guppy for company

I give mine sinking algae disks, and "bottom feeder" disks. He won't stop growing!!!

A common pleco will grow large I had one for 15 years and it grew to 19 inches long before it died.  Now i have two over 12 inches.  If there is no algae on the walls he's doing his job but may not be getting enough to eat.  I feed mine a couple of algae wafers every night at lights out.  I have seen them eat other fish if they are not getting enough to eat.

Well Common Plecos can get at around 16 inches in length. Since he's still about 3 inches long, move him into a 25 gallon or 29 gallon tank. Then he will most likely grow more. Go out to the pet store and buy some Alage discs so he can eat some. Alage can take some time to grow in the tank. Those are a good alternative source since alage can take a while to grow. Also, put some fish flakes on the filter,where water that gets returned to the tank,some might get stuck at the bottom of the tank. Them your Pleco will eat some of it. Good luck =]

Unfortunately, a common pleco is not suitable for a 10 gallon tank.  They grow very large and produce a lot of waste.  Keeping your pleco in there will stunt his growth, which will result in an early death.

We need to know the species of pleco? Is it a common? Most plecos get quite large and he could have his growth stunted. This is when there body stops growing b/c of there small living space, but then there internal organs keep growing untill they rupture and they die.=(

Plus, guppies like company. If you do not want fry, just get a lot of males and if you do want fry, you need 2 females for every male. But to give you the proper tank size and the adult length of that fish, we either need apic or a species name, but no pleco, not even a bristlenose can live in something that small. There are select few plecos that I do not know much about. Agin we need to know the species or have a pic.

edit: He NEEDS despartley a 75+ gallon tank! He will get 2 feet long.

Common pleco, not for the common fish keeper!!

Please get him a bigger tank b4 his growth gets stunted like I stated above!
