  2. I don't agree...AFL is played on a much bigger ground with twice as much seating as Rugby League.  League is a game where people like to be close to the action.  At the AFL you virtually need binoculars to see the game..  The TV ratings are similar.  But there are a few rules that need to be fixed up with the NRL.  I'll give you my suggested rule changes.

1..the 40/20...it penalises a team for excellent defence.  Change the rule so it can only be used up to tackle 3.

    2.  Reduce the points for a try scored from a bomb or grubber to 3 points.

    3. Allow the referee to award 6 again for minor infringements, rather than a penalty for everything.

    4. Do away with scrums...there are so few won against the feed.  Make it just a change over.

    5. Do away with the stripping rule....ball security should be a priority for the ball carrier.

    6. Make it so a try is scored when an attacking member crosses the goal line....no grounding.  Grounding can be too hard to determine when there are lots of players over the ball.

So if someone is 'held up', that would become a try.

    7. The ref should call time out when a try is scored and not call time on until after the conversion attempt.

I think these rule changes would speed the game up and make it more attractive........

Hey .... I am of the old school, before the limited tackle rule, and I have seen many changes, not all of them for the better.

    Thanks for the question.

  3. We need better Cheer Girls, follow the example of the American NFL, they make Cheer Leading a sport, great entertainment, whats up with Souths dumping all those hot S****y cheer girls?

  4. no no.. NRL has true supporters, not those ones who only follow when there local team is winning.. its better this way...

  5. They need more people to attend the games. To do that they need to lower the ticket and food prices for a start. All up a day at the footy is just too expensive. I agree that the world cup should be good for the game.

  6. Needs more money into the game. The world cup will do us good.

Also the TV ratings, they are pretty similar to eachother, the free tv ratings are usually won by the AFL but the payTV ratings are usually won by the NRL. But when it comes to State of origin and the NRL grand final, NRL clearly beats AFL in ratings (i did my homework : D) anyway its obviously telling you something - that there is a huge interest in rugby league from outside of NSW and QLD, nrl just has to market it right.

I dont think the NRL is doing so bad, it averages the largest attendances for any rugby code(both league and union) in the world and also sells more merchandise than AFL and cricket combined.

  7. i agree do away with thee scrums!! what a waste of time they are, and they dont always need to go to the video referee! if they assume the ball is held up give them a try! the grounding, hm its a lil fussed over some times but they can be good! and dnt watch afl, its a pansy game!

  8. If we give half a point for hitting the post in goal kicks or 2 points for a held up over the line, we can be like the vfl game where they get one point for missing!

  9. The thing is, NSW has a much wider choice of sports to follow. Melbourne/Vic only have AFL & 1 RL team, so they all concentrate on that. Also we have a much bigger area to cover making it impossible for many people to travel to every venue/game. I dont think RL will ever die out, but theres no use expecting us to achieve the popularity of AFL for those reasons I mentioned
