How to insall a capacitor?

can any one help me by telling how to install a car audio capacitor? i was wondering if i need a distribution block or can i run the power wire to positive terminal on the cap and then another wire from that positive terminal to the amp?

  1. The way you described is correct.  Run the power wire from the battery to the cap and on the same terminal run the power wire to the amp.  

    A very important step you need to know about is charging the cap before you install it.  If you do not do this you will be in for a major spark.

    When a cap is not charged it is basically a dead short.  A cap also cannot change it's voltage instantaneously.  This means if you touch the power wire from the power wire (12 volts) to the terminal on the cap (0 volts) you will have a 12 volts difference.  This is why you get a huge spark.  

    In order to charge the cap you will need either a small lightbulb or a resistor.  The links below will help you learn about charging a cap.

  2. As long as you install it inline between the amp and the power source you should be fine.

    How you install it depends on how clean you want the install to be.
