I have a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router(WPN824 is the product code) that I cannot locate the install disc for. How do I go about installing it? I was unable to locate a download file from the Netgear website.

  1. "Connect to the wireless router by typing the IP address of the

    wireless router in the address field of your browser, then click

    Enter. 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of the wireless

    router. The wireless router will prompt you to enter the user

    name of admin and the password. The default password is

    password."

    You will be able to access all the router settings through the web based admin.

    (you don't need to use the software to install it)

  2. you dont need the install disk.  all the disk has are the instructions.

    For cable modem only

    1) first disconnect the electric for your modem, if your modem is also a VOIP modem and has a battery backup you MUST diconnect the battery also)

    2 turn computer off

    3) plug the ethernet wire from your modem into the back of the router, it will say internet or uplink,  something like that.  JUST  MAKE SURE YOU DONT PLUG IT INTO ONE OF THE NUMBERED PORTS.

    3) connect a 2nd ethernet caples from port 1 on the router to your computer

    4) plug modem back in and let stay on for about a minute, if your diconnected the battery connect battery also

    5) plug router on and let stay on for about a minute

    6) turn computer on

    7) open internet explorer, you will probably get an error page cant be found message, thats fine, in the adress bar tpye in 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 one of them will bring you to the router setup page.

    it will ask you for a user name and password.  in lower case only type in:

    A)  username --> admin

    password --> admin

    B) username --> administrator

    password --> administrator

    C) username --> admin

    password --> password

    D) username --> password

    password --> password

    one of those 4 will be the right username and password combo

    8) once you log in its very simple there will be directions on each page so just follow direction.

    If you have DSL, call your provider because with dsl there is one added step, first you have to log into the modem itself and tell it your will be using a router, i forgot if you have to change it from routered brited to bridged or from bridged to routered bridge, but your dsl company will tell u what to do, then from there just do the same as you would if you had a cable modem like  i explained above.

    Once its setup, do a few extra security precautions.

    for the IP table limit the number of IP address to only number of computers you want to connect to it, so if you have 2 computers limit the tabe to give out only 2 ip adresses, if you use a networked printer then allow for the printer also (a networked printer is NOT the same as a shared printer, a network printer is when you plug printer into the router, a share is when you plug printer into the computer)

    also because its a netgear, not only limit the ip address, but also limit the computers that will connect to it by the computers MAC adress.  to find the MAC adress on the computers go to run, cmd and the dos screen type in ipconfig /all, it will show you the mac address (it will say phisycal address thats the mac adress) as 10-25-af- etc, something like that, when you type in those numbers on the router windows will show the numbers seperated by a dash "-", but on the router seperate each group of numbers with a colon ":".  if the mac adress has a "0" its the number 0 and not the letter O
