How to learn astrology

Question

Any good books or sites (not the sunsign but core predictive astrology) that anyone can refer, which are interesting to read. I got some but they are really monotonous and are very difficult to remember

The book that started me off as an astrologer was The Inner Sky by Steven Forrest... he strips the signs, planets and houses down to their core meanings, and then at the end of the book, walks you through a sample chart reading. It is very basic, but it gives you the foundation to understand how everything else connects...

For books I highly recommend Alan Oken's work.  I just finished reading "Rulers of the Horoscope" (which is for intermediate students of astrology who already know the basics and want something more in depth) and I loved it.

P.S.  If you're interested in having your chart interpreted but can't afford a reading from a competent professional astrologer, Liz Greene's Astro*Intelligence computerized reports, here: http://www.astro.com/prod/pr_reports_e.h... , are an insanely good alternative.  I've already bought six of them over the last year for myself and for others as gifts (which is somewhere around 175 pages and $300 worth), and they were worth every penny.

There really is no such thing as "core predictive astrology", if you're speaking in terms of beginner predictive astrology. It's not really a beginner pursuit. There are astrological basics to be learned first, and then the basics of interpreting a natal chart. Predictive astrology relies just as much on intuition as it does textbook interpretation, so there's really no book that going to fully teach you how to do this successfully, as it's got just as much to do with your ability to interpret the symbols as it does the textbook interpretations of each placement. Any given placement can have a variety of meanings, it's up to the astrologer to weigh and discern which meanings may have more validity than others given the relationship between all of the placements within the chart. That takes practise more than anything else. But you have to start with basic birthchart interpretation after you learn your way around the zodiac. There are lots of good beginner astrology books out there...mapping your birthchart by Stephanie Jean Clement is a good one.

Most professional astrologers will have these basic books in their collections, which I have found very useful and for the most case fun, especially if you want to work with your own chart:

What Heaven Knows by Grant Louie

Astrology "A Cosmic Science" by Isabel Hickey

The Astrologer's Handbook by Sakoian & Acker

These should be good for starters and will cover most of the basics.

Also you can go to: http://www.meetup.com/ and look up Astrology. Their may be a group in your area. There are several in mine and I belong to a couple of them.

I agree with Delphi on Alan Oken's book. They are very thorough and back in the days, I read some of his book among others " Alan Oken's Complete Astrology which included 3 of his works combined in a 650 page book covering everything down to the Transits and should give you a good explanation of Planets, Signs, Aspects etc..

Alan Leo, Linda Goodman, Hades, Volguine, Cahiers Astrologiques (last 3 are among the best in Europe).

To the asker, if you find it boring, what would you do if you would have to research or read a couple of hundred books ? And besides the reading, you still need the intuitive part which is what makes your answers interesting and is at the core of all readings.

What are you looking for and what are you expecting from Astrology ?

If you find it monotonous, then why bother?  Let us know what books you are finding boring.  Maybe they aren't good books.  Learning astrology takes dedication and alot of studying.  AND looking at alot of charts... hundreds of charts.  If that doesn't sound like something you want to do, then maybe astrology isn't for you.

What is it about astrology that interests you?  If it is merely prediction, you should try tarot.  Good luck.
