Question:

How to legally protect a website?

I'm working on creating a website. What do I need to do to patent it? Is it called patent, or trademark (I'm unclear about the terms)? Do I need to be incorporated first? Is legalzoom.com a good way to incorporate / patent?

Any advice is great.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Claim copyright on it at the bottom by saying copyright 2008 'your name' or company name.

See the bottom of this page? t says Copyright © 2008 Yahoo! Inc. All Rights Reserved.

You can do this as well http://www.legalzoom.com/sem/get-a-copyr...

But a fact of law is that you own the copyright upon creation and protect it by simply claiming... BUT if you don't register it with D.C. you would only be able to recover actual damages, whereas if the copyright is registered you can sue for punitive damages - punish them for rippin you off.

Then as soon as it is published go here. http://www.copyscape.com/ and keep up on it.

If it is not a high value site, you will be okay by just claiming and copyscape. - final edit :)
