How to make homemade M-80?

I have been trying to make homemade M-80's but I have had no success. I have been emptying out .22 caliber shells into a 2 inch long segment of a crayola marker and using a sparkler as a fuse. I taped these heavily but they only made a hissing noise why the went off and there wasn't any real destruction. I was wondering how to fix this and possibly make one with more bang and more destruction.

My sup[liees consist of

gunpowder

spaklers(for fuses)

duct tape

and any container to put the powder in.

I also have 15 dollars and access to a hardware store.

since m80s are illegal i highly doubt you will get help here...also do you realize the caliber of question you are asking here?....you might as well be saying how do i make a pipe bomb....you have no business with this sort of nonsense....read a book....youll be better off for it..your question will probably be deleted

Your problem is in your recipe. M80s are made with Pyrotechnic Flash powder, not Gunpowder. The composition of the two are quite a bit different.

Flash powder is made of  potassium perchlorate( KClO4) and a metallic powder, usually aluminum.

Gunpowder is made of sulfur, charcoal and potassium nitrate(KNO3)

This means that Gunpowder operates quite a bit differently then what is found in an M80. Different explosive compounds react differently and have different requirements for triggers.

(Edit: Additional Information. M80s are indeed, Illegal, Homemade or otherwise, for private useage. You can make a slimmed down version of a M80, but it becomes federally illegal if it has a hair over 50mg of Flash Powder. Each state has it's own regulations on Class C Fireworks, and I strongly advise you learn your state regulations before continuing your persuit for the biggest boom. You also may face laws against the creation of Home-made fireworks, so I suggest you look into that as well.)
