  1. Definitely research more about caring for your pets.

Cockatiels have their own specially formulated food, so feeding them a proper diet is a good start. Apart from seed they should be having plenty of fruit and vegetables, They would enjoy things like peas, corn, carrots, apple, pear, banana, capsicum... there isn't many things your bird wont try.

Don't feed avocado, chocolate, or anything that is too fattening. Most birds enjoy small scraps of whatever food you are eating.

Do your birds have toys? Cockatiels are intelligent birds and need some mental stimulation. There are many parrot toys on the market suitable for 'tiels.

Do they have access to water for bathing?

Do they have any nesting boxes or bird hammocks for sleeping in?

Do you have natural perches of different sizes and shapes for them to sit on and chew up?

You can give your birds tree branches with the leaves on to chew up. Just check first to make sure the tree is non toxic to your bird.

I use eucalypt and bottlebrush branches with fruit and flowers- my birds love them.

If your birds have access to all of these things they should be much happier and healthier.

  2. Are they indoor or aviary caged birds? Is there a reason you think your cockatiel(s) could be healthier?

Well starting with diet & their cockatiel seed mix, pick one with a wide variety & always take note of which seeds they eat most of, before you throw out the left overs & refill the bowl. (say, every 2-3 days)

Their seed preferences can change... when my cockatiel was young, he ate every type of seed. Now that he's older, there's a couple of seed types that he won't eat. So I've changed brands that contain more of the ones that he does eat.

Another thing that's good for their health is letting them fly around a safe & secured room for about half an hour or so if they want to. There's a gland under their wing and it's natural for them to exercise it, So I've always allowed my cockatiel some exercise time - I'm just assuming that you keep it in a cage rather than an aviary :)

Also keeping it out of draughts in cooler weather is a very good idea. eg; if it's placed in front of an open window in winter, I'd definately move it.

And socialising with them is very important too. :)

  3. you question is a little vague. first of all, it is spelled Cockatiel.

i would say look it up. the best thing you can do is hop on the internet and read as much research as you can. there are tons of books out there too. google is a wonderful thing.
