Question:

How to overcome nepotism?

I work in a business office that is privately owned by one particular family. While most of the family members do actually work, I can't help but be absolutely appalled at the fact that my boss is guilty of nepotism with his daughter. It's one thing to hire a family member, as long as they are the best candidate for the job, but this is totally different. His daughter wanders in whenever she wants, clocks in and goes to "her office" and does nothing for hours. Then, her mother brings her boyfriend in and they all do nothing for a few more hours, etc. She isn't forced to clock out for lunch breaks like the rest of us, oh no. Heaven forbid she have to do that. She makes at least a dollar more on the hour than me (me being the person who is payed the least of everyone anyway) and I have more qualifications than her. What could I possibly do to keep this from happening? Is there a department of some sort that I could put in a complaint to? Is there any hope for us hard working middle class Americans, or will we always be stepped on and pushed aside for the rest of our lives?

  1. Your best bet would be contacting the better business bearu. If you truly feel that you have better qualifications that she does however, you might consider looking for another job. If you find another job with more money, explain to your boss that you have gotten a better offer and are considering it, and explain the reasons why....perhaps if your boss values your presece he will offer to change things.

  2. I don't think there is much you can do about this because the company is privately owned.  If it bothers you that much, maybe you should consider finding a different job.  It would p**s me off, too.

  3. Try asking for a raise,
