How to price Photography

I am starting my own extreme sport photography business and I am now building my web page. I was wondering how to price every thing. Should I have them give me a lump fee up front or should I focus on individual photos. Or do both. and how much should I charge. Only serious answers please.

  1. That is the eternal question, what are my pictures worth, better yet what are they worth to the individual? You need to look at other businesses that do what you do, if you are unique, find something similar. If you are starting out, no matter how good, you need to the least expensive out there or close to it. You obviously cannot sell for less than what it costs to produce but make it affordable.

To give a package price, may or may not work for you. Do you have an oline host that will allow you to store for free and manage the credit cards? For my wedding business, I use weddingimagesonline.com. They host for free, charge an order fee and credit card fee and I don't have to do a thing. They take their cut and send me a check. I set the pices of course where I know I make enough money, and then every six months or a year I would raise the prices until I am making money at a comfortable rate.

hope this was helpful, and good luck.

  2. What you want to do is calculate your expenses, and double that as a starting point - that's one way of looking at it. You can also, add a per hour charged $50/hr, plus expenses. You need to have the feel of what people in your area/place are willing to pay. Try to canvas other photography places so you can have an idea.

You can give your customer options - like I said, it all depends on the place of your business.

Make sure you have a fantastic portfolio to show.
