  1. Wear knee pads. That will support them and protect them in the event of an accident. Take about a 400 Mg Ibuprofen before starting the ride. Take hot bath and soak up the warm water, and if they still ache some, rub some Aspercream on then. Good luck young lady and enjoy your riding. Most of all, be careful.

  2. As you already may be doing, stretch, stretch, stretch!  Before and after your rides.  The benefits and the importance of stretching is often forgotten when exercising.

Strength training is also very beneficial for your knees.  Strong quadriceps, inner thighs and hamstrings will stabilize the knee, making it harder to stretch or tear a ligament. Women, in fact, are generally much more prone to tearing knee ligaments because many have hamstrings that are weaker than their quadriceps. However, one study has shown that when women strengthen their hamstrings with jumping exercises, they reduce their risk of knee injury by 75 percent!

When you feel knee pain, ease off. Don't keep pushing, even when your knees begin to ache. Knee pain is a sign that something is wrong, and your joint needs some time to recover. If your knees are inflamed and aching, stop exercising. Take ibuprofen to reduce the pain and swelling. In some instances, applying ice three times a day can help alleviate pain. When the pain has subsided, start your exercise routine again GRADUALLY and stop if you feel pain. As you recover, begin to add new exercises to your workout to strengthen your major leg muscles.

    Happy riding!
