How to recognize a gothic architecture?

I always get confused with romansque and gothic architecture.  It is mainly because these two architectural periods are right after the other.  For gothic, you will usually see tall, glass, tinted windows.  These buildings are usually the churches.  Also, the exterior of a gothic building is very tall, slim, and light weighted compared to the romansque architecture.  The gothic windows are used for lighting inside the church and is very beautiful.  It has different patterns and decorations.

Pointed arches instead of round topped ones

Flying buttresses--connect walls to pillars to support heavy walls

Bigger than Romanesque churches because the walls and pillars can support more weight

Rose windows and elaborate stained glass

Gargoyles and relief sculptures adorn walls and archways
