I am an aspiring actress but I have no idea where to start. I don't know if I should look for an agent and how I could go about doing that or what. Any help would do, thank you.

  1. If you have no experience, put getting an agent on the back burner for a while. What does that mean? Get some acting training. Find a good school and a good teacher to help you learn how to act.

You have to remember that agents want to make money and they can only do that if they work with good acting talent they know has a good chance of booking a job if they get sent out on auditions.

In order to be put into that category, you have to be competitive and be trained. 99% of the time, an agent will be able to see if you have received any training as an actor.

Let's put it this way, before you actually meet an agent, you have to get the attention of an agent. You can do that in different ways. There are meet and greets, forums, classes conducted by agents and places where you can actually pay to audition. Another possibility is to go to events, such as showcases, trade fairs or Manhattan monologue slam or la monologue slam where you are sure to meet agents. To properly prepare for an agent interview, you should know what agents look for in an actor.

You should also know about the agent and what casting directors they work with or at least what kind of projects they submit their clients for and/or what kind of talent they represent.

You'll need a few monologues that speak to your strengths as an actress.

You should know what to expect at the initial interview.

There will be questions asked of you that you should know how to answer.

Then, if they choose to want to work with you, you need a new set of skills.

And finally, if you get this far, you will need to be a well trained actress in order for you to stand a good chance of keeping your new job.

To have a better chance of having the possibility to do all those things, you will want to have some training under your belt. You will then feel even more comfortable if you are still training.

Don't rush it! Put first things first.

  2. start with student films at your local college.  the experience will be great and they don't require you be in a union or have professional headshots.  make sure you get a copy of your work and start building a reel.

  3. Go to every audition you can find at schools and community theaters.  Be prepared for rejection, but remember it's not because you aren't good enough, it's because you aren't what they're looking for.  Accept even the smallest part, and if they don't offer you anything, volunteer for tech or house work.  Whatever you end up doing, be reliable.  Be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting, unnoticed.  And finally, be aware that the average annual income for a professional actor is someting like $1,000!

  4. i am to, and i am getting ahead fast you need to have alot of experience like preforming in lots of school plays and award help alot and then you go to acting camps/classes then you start trying out for things like commercials or if you want to do live theater then you need to try out for like little plays and then go bigger and when you get a part that is the time for agents and managers and all that good luck!!
