How to stop sponsoring a child?

Me and my family decided to sponsor a child from children international when my mom was with her boyfriend. Now that they are no longer together we have not enough money to sponsor a child. My mom doesn't have a job and I'm getting money from welfare only. I looked on the website if there was info about how to stop sponsoring but they don't have and I can't e-mail them. My mom also tried to cal l but a machine answers and it doesn't give information about that. They say that we now have to send the child like $80 dollars. Do we have to pay that?

If you did not set up auto pay from your bank account ignore the letters.

If you did set up auto pay the easiest way to stop it is to open a new bank account with your bank move your money (if you have any left) to the new account and close the old account. When the auto pay request hits the bank it will be rejected and that will be that.

While it may be good to help others if you can afford it caring for your self and family comes first. You are already on welfare yourself.

You don't have to do any such thing...and thanks you for posting this question.  It should be a warning to other well meaning people who which to do good deeds.  There is an old saying..."No good deed goes unpunished."  It fits doesn't it?  We don't even know if these organizations are real or just rip offs... few can resist the desire to help...and these organizations know it and know exactly how to pull at our heartstrings.  Ignore the mail and/or calls.  Send one letter to stop them and keep it.  Express regret but remind them charity begins at home.  louisv has the right idea also.

Why would we stop someone who is trying to help those kids by paying $80 dollars to help them get foods and clothes, I think that's what they do with the money. Why would we stop someone who is paying $80 dollars to help those kids that are not sure if they will survey to see tomorrow. Yes definitely we should pay, I am not saying that we have to pay that money, but what i am saying is if you have enough money for yourself and your family than you should pay and help those children out as you can. But if you don't have enough money for yourself and your family I don't think you should pay, because if you can't help yourself than how are you going to help somebody else. I think what we should do is if you have enough money than you should give out, but if you don't have enough money than you should look up for yourself first.  Not by stopping someone who is pay $80 dollars to save a child life.

If it is an automatic withdrawal. notify your bank and ask for a stop payment. if it is just a request form or bill.then send them a letter to the address that you are given . make a copy of your letter.Most organisations whether charitable or business. make it pretty easy to start payments, and very difficult and time consuming not to.If your family is in need of the money, then by all means use it for yourselves.You have done what you can. and in the future if your situation improves help again.But dont let yourself be subjected to guilt or obligation. charity is just that.charity.Also read your commitment. make sure you havent pledged an amount that you are legally bound to. and if you are. it is no longer charity. and you should find a different charity to give to.
