I want to use a store bought termite product - I don't have them but I want to be careful and not get them. I'd like to use the spikes that can be placed in the ground. Can those be purchased at a store and which stores?

  1. termidor is what pro's use,dig up 6" of soil around foundation of house and soak in. BUT it's best to leave this job to a pro. He knows how to mix concentrated termiticide w/water to last 5 to 10 years. Also they have tank and pump + drill to get termiticide in correct places. A termite only needs 1/8 of an inch of unprotected area to get thru and eat you house. Do you want to take that chance?

  2. I'm sure you can get the spikes at any home or garden store.  They are basically a type of wood that termites like to eat, so you place them and check them for termites--because if the termites are anywhere near there, they'll be there too.

When someone came to kill my termites, he used something that he would push about a foot into the ground in multiple places near their nest and soaked a good amount of the liquid he used for poison in there.  The exterminator said that if he didn't get the queen, there is no point in killing the rest of the bugs--they'd come back.  I'd bet that anything you bought in a can either won't work or would need to be diluted and injected into the ground.

  3. Unless your area has problems with termites or you have seen them in the past its like firing your gun off just in case robbers might come around.  Know if your house is susceptible to termite attack and how to watch for an attack.  There are termites all around my wood frame house in a forest.  Any board left on the ground is attacked by termites.  But in 30 years I have never had a single termite in my house.
