Question:

How to visualize in your mind?

I have been reading about subconscious mind, self-hypnosis, lucid dreaming, etc. Everything that I read on the subconscious mind, leads me to either hypnosis or dreams. The thing is I have dreams every night, I am able to remember them very well, even days later. But I have never been able to control my dreams.

With self-hypnosis though, I find that I can not for the life of me visualize anything the way it says to. Like the whole number thing, or the stairs, or whatever, I just really cant imagine it in my mind. All I see is darkness, sometimes I see flashing, but no images. I dont know if its meant to be just a saying or if youre supposed to literally see things, but I cant. My eye lids will flicker quickly though when I start focusing with my eyes shut, but nothing happens.

If I am supposed to literally see images while using self hypnosis, please tell me how I can achieve this. Thanks.

  1. OK, think of a kitchen. DONT THINK OF YOUR OWN KITCHEN.  do not think of your stove, or your fridge, or your floor and all the stuff thats in it, or anything thats on your counter right now.

---- If you just thought of images of your kitchen then you just visualized!!!

  2. People 'see' things differently, which actually means some do not "see" things at all.  I knew someone who could actually smell things in regression, but had trouble 'seeing' things.

Concentrate instead on relaxing to your fullest without falling asleep.  Instead of trying to 'see' the steps, try to 'feel' the banister in your hand (as if you were in a dark stairwell).  Try to 'feel' the bottom of your feet on teh steps.  Don't hold your eyes too closely taut.  After practicing a little, you will find what works best for you.
