  1. Trademarks can be the most valuable asset that many businesses own. Although an intangible thing, trademarks lead to success in the marketplace, since they differentiate products available for sale. Think about a typical supermarket, you can buy 5 brands of pretzels, but when you look at those 5 brands of pretzels you immediately look at the logo on those packages. As your eye glances over the logos you could think of the brands as "premium", "cheap", "expensive", "tasty","friendly", etc. Brands in most cases want to portect their image unless they decide to rebrand, think about a premium pretzel company, they wouldn't want to be assocaited with selling low priced prices, sicne it could ruin the brand's perception to customers purchasing the hihger cost pretzel. When trademarks are violated companies take that offense seriously and often wind up in letigation. The car insurance company Geico, sued Google for displaying search ads when people type in Gejcon claiming that they were dilluting their brand. When trademarks are violated companies view it as if they were personally harmed and react seriously. Remember a brand is the most important thing a company owns.
