  1. Put simply, a Flexographic printing uses an engraved sheet of rubber that has  then  been glued onto a roller . As the roller rotates through an ink tray a "Doctor Blade" removes the excess ink from the printing surface, this in turn comes into contact with the paper (more correctly called "the Web") whilst pressure in applied by a "Pressure Roller". The primary difference between "Gravure" printing presses and "Flexograghic" printing presses is that Gravure systems use engraved metal cylinders, whilst Flexographic presses use rubber plates and rollers.
