Kitten 4 month old male ginger - hugely vocal (just constant....!) in kitchen around food - either just about when he's to get his or when I'm making mine. Is driving me MAD! Help! He wonderful in all other ways and not vocal anywhere else in the house but nothing I do is stopping this. Even when I try to reward him when he's quiet he will become massively loudly mewy as soon as he sees the food on its way to him. Is there ANYTHING I can do here?

  1. if you hear him mew then dont givehim none i mean if you can send a kid to bed with out dinner then u can do the same to a kitty right? even though its unbareably cute!!!!

  2. Some cats are vocal by nature and really not much you can do! I myself prefer a talkative cat think it gives them personality!

  3. Just put up with it for now. He'll quiet down once he figures he's got you well trained.

  4. Thats a kitten for you.

  5. Spray your cat with a water sprayer when he howls. Then when he stops, feed him.  He will learn that howling is negative reinforcement and being quiet is positive reinforcement. It won't hurt him...cat's just don't like to get wet. Smiles, knowing.

  6. He is just being a normal cat, looking ever so forward to his food, and he is telling you to hurry up with it. My 2 cats do exactly the same, as soon i go into the kitchen they start meowing at me, they associate the kitchen with food, so when you go in there they think theyre going to be fed, its just a food thing, there's nothing you can do about it, hes only being a cat!!!!

  7. When he gets really annoying spray him with a water bottle.  Trust me, he will pipe down for a little bit.

  8. When your cat is quiet do reward him with a small treat, but keep it hidden until you reach him. If he starts to meow when you reveal it take it away.

Alternatively, you could shut the kitchen door when you are cooking, and give him lots of attention when you aren't using food so he knows you haven't forgotten him! =)

  9. My cat was very vocal all the time and aggressive as a kitten until we had him castrated. He still loves a good miaow but only when he has missed us for a few hours!

Hopefully it will be the same for you!
