Hughes to replace Katich in Perth
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185 is most likely to replace Simon Katich for the third Ashes Test in Perth after the opening Australian batsman got injured due to a torn Achilles tendon. Skipper Ricky Ponting has hinted that Hughes would be the most likely replacement in place
of the injured Katich. Australia are struggling to find consistency amongst their ranks following an innings defeat against England in the second test at Adelaide.
Hughes made a magnificent start to his test career with Australia, when he score two hundreds in the second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 last year. However he was ignored after playing just two tests against England sometime later the same year.
Ever since Katich and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 have found their rhythm as the opening pair, Hughes has found himself riding in the backseat largely ignored by the selectors.
It is probable that Katich will not be able to play for the rests of the Ashes as he would require some time and rehabilitation to heal the torn Achilles tendon. Due to this injury it is likely that the 22 year old Hughes will once again find himself back
in the national squad.
"We know what his international record is like -- he made a good 80 in the second innings of the game in Hobart against England as well, he made 80-odd not out in a one-dayer for NSW the other day, so he's got a few runs under his belt lately. He's probably
the first cab off the rank, if you like, who the selectors will be talking about. So I'll talk to Andrew Hilditch (chairman of selectors) about that in the near future but I'd be surprised if it's not him that came in," Ricky Ponting said.
However the England captain Andrew Strauss is hardly perturbed over the possible return of Hughes in the side. Despite the injury of Broad, England are well equipped to pose a serious threat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 since it is probable that Chris Tremlett or Ajmal
Shahzad will replace Stuart Broad in the third Ashes Test in Perth. Strauss has said that his side have their own plans against Hughes since they have played him in the Australia A game.
Strauss did acknowledge that Hughes has greatly improved his game however he did say that he still had weaknesses which could be exploited by the English bowlers. England are scheduled to have a three day tour game against Victoria on this Friday where the
three possible options for replacement, Shahzad, Tremlett and Bresnan will be pondered upon.
Strauss said, that the selection for replacement of Broad will categorically depend on who performs better during the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859.
