A simple question, but are human's short lived?

There is nothing like short or long. If you are a happy person, years are like moments, but if you are desperate, moments seem years.

You speak of an indefinite period. Compared to lake fly (12 hrs) no. Compared to the bristle cone pine (4000+ years) yes.

I suppose it depends on a person's attitude.

I don't think the actual time span is the issue, though. I think its the quality of the life that you lead. I mean, sure if you think about it from the very beginning of time we humans don't make much of an impact- but to me I think I do through the way I lead life.

Does that make sense?

Here, I'll try to clarify.

If I lived 120 years (quite a while) but I had nothing to show myself for it- never embarrased myself, made interesting friends, broken a bone, gone on a roller-coaster- that sort of thing I'd consider my life pointless and short (in terms of life experience, not numbers.)

If I died at 40- travelled a bit, partied a bit, gone sky-diving that sort of thing I'd think that though I'd only lived 40 years I had a good life, expereinced many things and in that way I'd had a full and long life.

As they say 'Live fast, die young' (hopefully not too young though). Hope I've helped.

We would probably escape an extinction event similar to the one that killed them off.  But man has the wonderful capacity for self annihilation - so, in my opinion, it's even money on how much further we go on the time line!

In the overall scheme of things, yes.

i guess so. seeing as the world has dated back billions of years and humans live on average to about their mid seventies, yes i would say we are short-lived.
