Question:

Humanity's Stupidity?

As a whole, would you say that humanity is getting dumber and dumber with each new generation?

I mean, I know there are wonderful advances of all types in the world today, but aside from the small percentage of our population responsible for those advances, I see a majority of stupidity.

Have you ever seen the movie Idiocracy? The more I think about it, the more I honestly believe that's where we're headed. I wish people had to pass IQ tests before they were allowed to reproduce.

  1. Quite the opposite.

BTW, why are you equating being SPOILED with stupidity? If you're asking are people more spoiled, why didn't you ask what you meant?

    Nope, never seen the movie.

My guess is that you hav an unrealistic view of past generations -- you think most people were smarter than they were.

There's a lower proportion of people who suffered serious malnurishment in their early years, which means fewer people of stunted brain-growth. Literacy has been increasing, education has been increasing.

A few years ago, I saw an article that reprinted a quiz given to Americans in the 1950s, with the results. I was amazed at how many people got much wrong -- things that are much more generally kinown now.

People complain a lot about the low quality of writing they see (like on this site) -- but it's never been true that most people could write well, or even grammatically. It's just that most writing from the past that's survived has been relatively well-written.

  2. I don't agree, and I bet that we could intelligently debate this.

  3. What does Humanity's Stupidity mean?

  4. yeah...the spoiled little brats are irritating.  I manage an HOA/Country Club full of 16 year olds that drive BMW's and complain because they wanted the blue one or something.

I think the stupidity comes from laziness and the fact that no one has to do anything anymore.  there is a machine to do everything.  so people are losing basic problem solving skills.

when I was 16 I had 2 jobs and went to school at night because my mom had cancer.  although this was only 8 years ago, it has gone downhill substantially (at least the part of society i see).

but not everyone is stupid.  you cant say that.   just most of them,.

  5. I disagree!

  6. people are getting more stupid
