Question:

Humming and static and not working

We bought a used car that came with this system. It worked fine for a while; then the car was parked for a few days without being driven, and the battery wore down and we couldn't start the car. We put in a brandnew battery which also wore out after a couple of days. Someone told us that the stereo is sucking the power out of the battery, so we took out the fuse that connects the radio. Then it didn't wear down the battery any more, and we've been driving the car without the fuse, and -- without any radio. We would LOVE to get the radio (and CD) to play again -- especially since the car was given to another one of our children. We put in a new fuse, and now the car (or the radio) hums really loud after it's turned off, and after the key has been taken out of the ignition. We can press the "off" button on the radio, but that doesn't solve anything. It just hums (loudly) for a minute or so. There is no way to stop it. Of course, we're afraid it's going to wear down the battery again. What can we do to fix this? For the first few months, the car ran fine with the radio on or off. We should be able to re-create that, right? I should also mention that this car has HUGE speakers, and another fuse for the speaker system. But we haven't even put in the fuse for the speakers yet. We should still get sound through the regular speakers. Is there a certain size fuse that we need? Did we perhaps get the wrong one? Have you ever heard of anything like this? That a radio wears down a battery? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!Angela
