because they are awfully tiny to start with.

Remember, feathers fluff out - so the real "bird" is just a tiny fraction of what you see.

this is because a humming bird is very very tiny and so very light  weight.. the bee humming bird is only 2 inches long..

moreover birds tend to have hollow bone so the body weight is less and they can fly more with a lesser weight.. these are the major reasons why the humming bird is so lightweight..

They don't have fat, they are just feathers and bones pretty much.
