Hurricanes in the Domincan Republic?

Question

I was thinking about going to the DR in July, I can stand the high temperatures, but is this hurricane season for the island?

Unfortunately, hurricane season begins June 1st and the further you get into the summer, the more likely for a hurricane. Though July won't be as active as September, it is also difficult to predict how and when a hurricane may be in the area when trying to plan an island vacation. It would be better to go in early July, as most hurricanes typically go toward the western Caribbean from the African coast and move more eastward as the summer progresses.  I would think you "should" be fine but with the weather patterns being what they are, it will probably be a gamble at anytime in the future. Summer IS hurricane season.. but seems heavier around August. im not an expert or anything.. just from experience

Hi Mickey !,

The last 110 years Puerto Plata had 3 hurricanes during the

later part of the years ( sep-oct-nov) so no problems!!!!

Yes it is hurricane season, the highest ones are between July-August, try going before or after, those are things that you cannot plan ahead since you never know when they will be happening. Good Luck =)
