Actually all the above answers are only partially correct.

Hybrid stringing is not only a mix between two types of strings but a mix between synthetic string and natural gut string.

The synthetic string delivers the control while the natural gut provides the power allowing hybrid strings to take the advantages of each. The synthetic string is usually strung on the mains and the natural gut on the crosses.

you use 2 different types of strings to string your racquet. so the ones that are vertical are a different material than the ones that are horizontal.
