Question:

I'm Pulling My Irons...Drills?

Hi,

Lately, on level ground, with a simple approach shot to the green, I've been pulling my shots, and they go far right (I'm a lefty) of my target, which is frustrating when you have a pitching wedge from 50 yards out with no obstacles in front of you and you hit the bunker on the right side of the green.

Why is this happening, and is their any drills to fix this?

  1. Maybe the ball is too far up in your stance, or you are lifting your head. Or, you are aiming over there.

  2. The ball is too far forward or you aren't keeping your head down. You may also try to hit a little cut. It will move the ball right to left. You could also try aiming left and trying to hit a little draw. Sometimes straight wont come on any given day. Other times it is the curve we can't manage. You may also try to hit a lower lofted club like an 8i, and run it up.

Good luck, and hit em straight.

  3. Weaken your grip a little from strong to neutral.  You might also be throwing the club over the top which will give you that big pull, even with your PW.

  4. You need to get the "lie angle" checked on your clubs. Since you are pulling everything, you should upright the lie +1 or +2 degrees.

  5. Mike there are several things that may be happening in your swing..... Too many to go into here.  I' d advise a trip to your local teaching pro to sort it out....n use correcting things that aren't broke....you only want to fix that which is broken
