I'm now depressed?

Question

I thought I had the skill that it takes to get sponsered at my local skate shop, but I got a message from the shop owner on myspace showing me this kid that wants to get sponsored, and the kid is hella better then me because he can grind and do stuff down drops. All I can do is Rodney Mullen kind of skating stuff.. That really lowered my self esteem with skating and I feel like I should just give up.. Help?

you shouldn't give up.. you should try to improve and learn new tricks.

You're young. You have PLENTY of time to improve.

But what you're talking about here is comparing two COMPLETELY different styles, which is impossible to judge.

You're a freestyle skater and he is a street skate. They are both good for what they are. I'm sure if he saw you doing your Rodney Mullen tricks he would think the same thing you thought about him when you saw his video.

h**l NO. Advice from a 14 year old... As a guy you gotta keep your chin up. Be happy for the kid unless he's some cocky guy. You have to prove to yourself first that you can become better than what you can do today. I wish you the best of luck man
