Question:

I'm scared. My oven?

For about a week now whenever my oven is turned on it has a weird smell. My maid claims that it's normal and she continues to use it although I've never smelled it before. I wouldn't be nervous but I'm pregnant and I don't wanna be breathing in gas or anything like that. IS this normal?

  1. Gas smells like rotten eggs.  Do you smell that smell?

If not that smell, then it might be the cleaning products used last inside the oven.

You can always CALL your Gas Company and they will come out at the slightest smell of gas ~ to check.  This they will do for free ~ but be sure it is a GAS smell that you smell.

  2. I f you have a gas oven you are most likely smelling gas.. what you should be concerned about is if its able to be smelt  when it's not on... But my dear.. you are also preggers and that causes heighted sensetivity to smells..just be aware of when you smell it and try to keep yourself in a well ventilated place so you wont get sick like oh my goodnes get the bucket sick... and if you get too concerned then ask someone independantly to come check it out... good luck!

  3. MAYBE SOMEONE MELTED SOMETHING IN THE OVEN THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN THERE. MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A SVC. TECH COME OUT AND TAKE A LOOK AT IT.IT COULD BE SOMTHING IN THE BACK MELTING THAT DOESN'T NEED TO MELT.

  4. If you wish to be sure then by all means call a service company to come out and give the oven a once over. They can check the flame, etc. for proper burning. It could need adjusting or cleaned. Or you may have some debris burning off every time you use it. Why take a chance, call a service company.

  5. Do you know what gas not being burned smells like?

If this is not what you are smelling and if your oven has an electronic ignition system, perhaps some food has mixed in an unusual way with the wiring system.

Perhaps some food or ... other item (like a cloth or a mouse has become caught in the oven and is slowly being burned up when you turn it on.

Finally, if some "different" material was used to clean the oven then the heated residue might be making the smell you notice.

No, I would not say it is normal and neither do you.  You did after all say that yo never smelled it before...

  6. My oh my, those people who answer USING A TELETYPE MACHINE!

Most likely it's due to something dripping onto the bottom of the oven.  Have your maid either clean the oven or if it's self-cleaning, run the self-clean cycle (and the over range exhaust fan, if you have one).   Either way, you might want to be out of the house when she does that, particularly the self-clean cycle.

  7. My daughter is pregnant, and she is able to smell things now that no one else notices. Maybe it smells as it always has, and you are just noticing it more. Pregnancy heightens your sense of smell. Ask a neighbor or someone else to check out the smell to be safe.
